I
took a nap and was late for Super Soul Sunday’s live streaming. Oprah’s guest was
Don Miguel Ruiz, author of “The Four
Agreements”.
This
was what I learned this Sunday, even if I missed the discussion of the first three agreements.
“Always
do your best.” Among the four agreements, this last one has a ‘physical’
component. The other three happens in your mind. But this last one needs action.
A female guest said, “Sometimes my best is barely getting out of bed. But there
are days that I shine.”
Was
she talking about me? … how I sometimes never get out of bed; how I sometimes wake
up with a severe headache that aggravates my usual daily physical muscle spasms and
nerve pain. But there are days, actually nights, when I ‘shine’, I paint, read,
and write, like right now. What I do, I do for myself and hopefully others will
appreciate what I do. If they don’t, not a problem, not my concern and I won’t
take it personally. I do it for me and for Him.
As
Super Soul Sunday ended, Oprah asked about religion and spirituality. The author
replied that religion is the result of spirituality. He said that “your existence
proves the existence of God”. But when asked what happens after death, he said “Nothing.”
That’s his opinion. I respect him for that. I think I remember my other
favorite author, Paulo Coelho, also wrote the same thing. I’d like to think otherwise, that someday I
shall be beside my Creator. In the meanwhile, while I am still here, I promise
to do my best.

Don Miguel Ruiz's Four Agreements
1. Be Impeccable With Your Word: Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.
2. Don't Take Anything Personally: Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering.
3. Don't Make Assumptions: Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness, and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.
4. Always Do Your Best: Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret."
