torch, connecticut st., greenhills

torch, an international fusion restaurant. they have an extensive menu of different cuisines that includes japanese, italian, american and filipino dishes.

i decided to get the pork taquitos for starters, but they ran out of sisig. so, we just settled for their torch special sushi. the servers first placed the soy sauce and wasabi on the table. thought the sushi was next, but, we had already finished eating all the dishes that we ordered and the sushi, our appetizer. has not been served. it was served last. i could understand it if there were a lot of people dining then, but, we were the only ones at the restaurant. it was 2pm, a very late lunch.

the soft shell crab salad was alright, meaning, 'pwede na'... it was enough for the three of us, but it only had 4 small pieces of batter-fried soft shell crab, which could probably have been just a 'talangka' that they fried. i like the soft shell crab sushi roll at kogi korean in eastwood better than this soft shell crab salad.

i got the seafood panizza, which had about 6 tiny shrimps, cut in half and placed on top of the very thin pizza crust. it was served with alfalfa sprouts, tomato and onion, & arugula. the hubby placed the tomato , onion and alfalfa sprouts on his panizza. alvin and i only ate the sprouts with the panizza. the three of us do not like arugula. o well .... i like the panizza at uncle cheffy's better !

the hubby ordered the steak sandwich. i tasted a small piece of the steak. it had some special sauce in it which i didn't appreciate. besides, i do not really like eating beef. but the hubby loved his sandwich.

son ordered a ramen, as usual. we should have gone to a japanese restaurant. son, who has this identity crisis, and thinks he is more japanese than filipino, (just kidding !), enjoyed his ramen. but said that it lacked the usual japanaese 'kick' or flavor.

the sushi finally arrived. it had so much toppings and too much japanese mayo that we couldn't figure out what we were eating, or what was actually inside the sushi rolls.

again, this fusion of cuisines really creates much confusion. ... just like when we ate at the ultimate buffet (kamayan, dad's and saisaki)... we had the crossover buffet the other weekend. i came home quite full but unsatisfied. the hubby said, he too felt full but did not feel good eating kare kare after sashimi , sushi and tempura. we vowed never to crossover again and eat just one type of cuisine at a time. / he was going to treat us to 145 fahrenheit but it closes after lunch, so i suggested this restaurant. thought i'd try it since my bff aimee had dinner at torch last time she was here in manila.

anyway, son and i just had to order dessert. wanted to get the new york cheesecake but that was too heavy and i was already full. so we got the fresh fruits pannacotta, which had mango and kiwi. i also love the coffee jelly served with vanilla ice cream. their desserts were good. you can never go wrong with anything that has sugar in it. i should have just eaten dessert.

will i go back to torch?  i'll think about it  =)
