Lutong Macau / a food trip March 2009

Macanese Food - a fusion of Asian and European cuisines. Tapas (Spanish appetizers) are an integral part of Macanese Cuisine. The most popular snack is the "Piggy Bun" and the Portuguese Egg Tart. Pasteleria Koi Kei sells these egg tarts, almond cookies and peanut candies. Since I am a lover of Chinese food, my palate and taste buds went haywire, got very confused, eating Macanese food :(

PS ... just a piece of my mind ... I remember this Macanese restaurant at Eastwood, called Macau, one of the first restaurants there in Eastwood. I thought they just served bad Chinese food then. :( :( It is this mixture of Chinese and Portuguese ingredients that didn't quite appeal to me. .... Mr. Kurosawa is another establishment which attempts blending Japanese and European cuisines. Such fusion might be a welcome change and acceptable to many. But for me, the essence of the original cuisine is lost, if done by 'nouveau restaurateurs'. ... However, there is this restaurant, Cafe Bola (owned by a well renowned, expert and celebrity chef) that serves dishes combining Filipino and European cuisines. Perfect combination or brilliant chef ?? :)
